Hello everyone, with this thread we are revealing our unique PvE feature, the terrains.

What Are Terrains?

They exist in the core games, such as Electric Terrain or Misty Terrain. We have taken those core terrains and expanded them significantly upon it to artificially increase the difficulty and provide a challenge to the players.

Why Are Terrains?

We believe it's an interesting battle mechanic that is severely underutilized that was worth expanding out. We have identified this as a potential mechanic to be improved upon. The team was inspired by the way the terrain mechanic was used in Amethyst Liddell’s Pokemon Reborn.

Basic Information on Terrains

  • Terrains you will encounter are 100% permanent battle effects. They will not be terminated or replaced by any means.
  • Terrains contain dialogue. Start of each terrain has one and aims to drop a hint on what to expect from it. These dialogues extend to certain interactions, providing more information.
  • As long as Pokemon can fulfill Terrain criterias, they can be subjected to their effects. Pokemon dont need to be grounded and both sides can be affected by terrains.
  • We can summarize Terrain effects as the mechanics already existing in the game used for different situations. There are no crazy new mechanics or something that cannot be explained by existing mechanics.
  • During the design process we tried to be as logical as possible. Terrain effects should make sense to you. There are not too many effects that will make you go "Wait, why they did it like this?". For example, you can expect Grass-types to be stronger in Forest areas and Water-types to be stronger in open seas.
  • Terrains and weather effects may overlap. They are 2 separate concepts. But in some cases this weather is a part of that battle's identity and therefore is subjected to #1. This will be mostly seen for Gym Battles.
  • The PokeForce designer team will not share terrain specific effects with the playerbase. However, we do encourage discussion regarding them in a separate thread.
  • Each Gym Leader will have its own unique terrain that cannot be encountered anywhere else. Gym's are offering playerstwo different choices in difficulty, normal and gauntlet. Normal will have a more default and basic terrain. Gauntlet will have additional effects.

These terrains do not affect PvP in any way, unless custom tournaments are created with terrain ruleset specificly. We are keeping official PvP vanilla for simplicity reasons.
